About Jake

A love for photography was combined with adventure.

Jake is a 27 year old Australian. Jake left his hometown of Perth, WA, at 18 years old, and moved to Indonesia to chase his dream island life. Jake worked a few jobs in his time, but always based himself around the ocean, adventure, tourism and travel. He started out as a PADI Scuba Instructor and based himself on Nusa Lembongan, a small Indonesian island with pristine coral reefs and blue waves. He worked for a local Indonesian salary and lived in a small basic room. SCUBA diving was now his living and surfing was his leisure. As he solidified his professionalism in the SCUBA world, he gained trust with businesses and progressed to be an experienced dive professional. Requests and invitations began to appear around him. He eventually found himself in the remote marine parks of Komodo National Park ( Labwan Bajo, Flores ) on a luxury liveaboard. He was young, and it was rare for the role of a cruise Cruise Director to be handed to someone of his age. Jake learned to sail and navigate the 30m vessel through the Flores Archipelago, and studied the Indonesian language to communicate with his crew. The work was intense but rewarding for him. He learned more about life in that time than he had in years of study. But this was just a small scratch on the surface of Jake's adventures.

Photography and journalism are some things that Jake has loved his whole life. He began capturing photos at young age when his grandad gifted him an old 35mm film camera. His parents encouraged him to write travel journals on his family's frequent adventures through South East Asia, sometimes taking Jake and his younger sister Tallulah out of school for months at a time. Indonesia felt like a second home to Jake. So, when it was time to leave his comfortable home nest, he traveled out to Indonesia alone.

Jake has spent most of his time exploring through Asia, documenting, surfing, working, writing and storytelling. Jake based himself in Indonesia, traveling from the far eat of Rote to the far west of Sumatra. Jake explored new places and shared what he had to offer along the way. Jake learnt how to live alone, how to be independent, how to make a friend in a lost place. Jake started to learn how to respect the new cultures and traditions he came across, and how to treat the new people he met with love and respect. Learning how to value himself took even longer... But Jake saw that life was full of lessons, and sometimes you had to fall to climb higher. He learnt that humans are all human, and we all have a goodness inside us.

"I'm very happy with where I am at in my life, and I look forward to more amazing opportunities and adventures to come."
